To prevent children from becoming child laborers and to facilitate the working women living below poverty line, Asha Nivas has been running pre Schools. Early childhood care and education is being provided to slum dwelling children every year.
Asha Nivas imparts Non-formal Education to school drop-outs street and working children functioning in the evenings for the age group of 7 to 14 years. These centres provides basic need of education that is literacy including mathematics, life skill training, personality and skill development training. children are trained for examination in 8th, 10th and 12th standards.
Asha Nivas runs coaching centres benefitting slum children studying in Corporation Schools . Monthly motivational programmes serves a vital role in ensuring children from under privileged society armed with tools that enable them to realize their full potentials.
Street children are those who live on streets and pavements and those who live slums engaged n various activities. They are mostly run away children from schools, rural and urban areas due to family disintegration, migration, poverty, harassment, drunken fathers and peer group influence.
Asha Nivas operates a short stay home for runaway children in the form of Open Shelter in collaboration with Directorate of Social Defence under the Integrated Child Protection Schemes (ICPS) Open Shelter provides residential facility, food, medical care, recreation and non-formal education.
Poverty and poor economic condition of the family precludes many a children from realizing the dream of having unhindered access to education. To help them to realize it, Asha Nivas has been supporting the education for children
After established rapport with children above 15 years who are not interested in studies are gradually weaned to accept some skill training according to their capacity and interest. Asha Nivas trains children and provides coaching in the field like lathe work, two wheeler and three wheeler mechanism, computer. Those who successfully complete the training programme are placed in suitable jobs.
Asha Nivas has formed Child Parliament where children are encouraged to form child parliament and to take up extra social activities in their respective areas. They volunteer themselves to keep their surroundings clean and pollution free environment by growing trees. They meet every month to discuss on the problems like education, environment hygiene, that they face as their basic child’s right.
